Laird LC-DW 300 “Solution”

Designed by E.M. “Matty” Laird for the 1930 Thompson Trophy Race in Cleveland, Ohio.  Piloted to first place in that race by noted stunt and airmail pilot Charles “Speed Holman.  A higher powered and more streamlined Laird “Super Solution” won the 1931 Thompson Race piloted by Jimmy Doolittle.  The original Laird “Solution” is displayed at the New England Air Museum at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

Granville, Miller & deLackner Q.E.D.

The last Gee Bee racer.  Built at Springfield (MA) Airport for famed aviatrix Jacqueline Cochran to enter the 1934 London to Melbourne MacRobertson Air Race.  Because Ms. Cochran had been named Lucky Strike Girl of 1933, the ship was painted Lucky Strike Green with gold trim.  675 hp Pratt & Whitney Hornet powered.

Hall “Bulldog”

Not a Gee Bee aircraft, this unique gull-winged racer was designed and piloted by Granville Brothers Aircraft chief engineer Bob Hall.  Built at Bowles Airport in Agawam, MA, this aircraft finished 6th in the Thompson Trophy Race at the 1932 National Air Races in Cleveland OH.  Massachusetts set the world record- breaking  pace for racing aircraft design and development in the 1930’s.   Powered  by 550 hp Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior.
